Choosing a commercial drone starts with defining the work it needs to complete. A suitable aircraft must fit your required output, operating environment and daily workflow. Camera specifications matter, but so do battery availability, software compatibility and the support available after delivery.
Before comparing quotations, prepare a short project brief. This makes it easier to compare complete configurations and helps suppliers identify missing equipment.
## 1. Define the Result You Need
Start with the final deliverable. Do you need marketing photographs, repeatable construction progress images, inspection records or a mapping dataset?
For visual documentation, consider image detail, camera control and the ability to repeat useful viewpoints. For mapping, define the required ground detail, coordinate reference system and accuracy verification method. For thermal inspection, establish whether you need visual screening or recorded temperature measurements, then confirm the sensor and software support those requirements.
Describe the task clearly before selecting a platform.
## 2. Match the Camera to the Application
Megapixel count alone does not describe a camera’s suitability. Compare sensor size, lens characteristics, shutter type and supported capture modes against the intended task.
If inspection requires viewing details from a distance, review usable optical performance and sample images. For photogrammetry, check image quality and compatibility with your processing workflow. A mechanical shutter can help reduce motion-related distortion, but image capture settings and flight planning still need attention.
Ask for representative original files whenever possible. Evaluate the output you will actually process or deliver.
## 3. Specify Positioning and Accuracy Requirements
For mapping projects, distinguish aircraft positioning from the accuracy of the finished map. RTK capability can support precise image positioning, but it does not independently guarantee the accuracy of every deliverable.
Discuss correction data availability, coordinate systems, ground control and independent checkpoints with the project team. DJI’s Terra documentation also identifies ground control measurement and distribution as factors affecting processing accuracy.[1]
Specify how results will be checked before choosing positioning accessories or software.
## 4. Plan the Battery and Charging Workflow
Evaluate batteries as part of the daily work cycle. Ask how many sorties are planned, whether power is available on site and how equipment will be transported between locations.
Build the configuration around aircraft battery requirements, charging time and manufacturer instructions for cooling, storage and maintenance. Avoid assuming that advertised maximum flight time equals the productive time available for every task.
Keep a process for inspecting and tracking batteries. Manufacturer guidance should govern storage and maintenance; DJI identifies improper storage, over-discharge, impact and water exposure as potential causes of battery damage.[2]
## 5. Confirm Compatibility Before Ordering
Check the exact aircraft, controller, camera, battery and charger models. Similar names or matching connectors do not establish compatibility.
Confirm supported applications, firmware requirements, computer requirements and export formats. For mapping or inspection software, clarify whether the quotation includes a license and whether future renewal costs apply.
Request a written equipment list with model numbers and quantities.
## 6. Compare the Complete Procurement Package
Compare quotations for the same scope. Include the aircraft, required accessories, software, transport case and any agreed training or technical support.
Ask the supplier to clarify product condition, regional version, warranty coverage, spare parts availability and delivery terms. These details help your team understand what is included and how issues will be handled.
## Build a Configuration Around Your Project
A practical purchase decision connects the required output to a complete operating workflow. Share your application, site conditions, expected workload, preferred deliverables and budget with your supplier.
Contact HZC Drone to discuss your requirements and request a configuration proposal with a clearly itemized equipment list.
